PROFILES - JAKE

Vehicle Name: 'Jake'
Model: Type 2 Bay
Year: 1971
Owner: Steve and Jane Tizard

After years of wanting a VW camper, we came across this one for sale in 2008 on the Island and with the registration number being AKE 52J we decided on the name Jake. We joined DAMAGE last year and go along to as many club meets and shows as possible. Not only is it about the vehicles in DAMAGE, it’s also about the socialising. That’s what makes it so enjoyable.

Our first trip off the Island with Jake was in 2008. Jake had to be pushed on to the car ferry! Not the best start, but things could only look up from here. Our furthest trip so far was to Cornwall, and we made it the whole way no problems. Other trips have included Volksworld, Vanfest, Brighton Breeze and general camping and chilling out (usually with a Beer…or two!).

Steve TizardJake is a 1971 Type 2 Bay Camper with a standard 1600 engine. In the last 4 years we have had various bits of welding done including new inner and outer seals, jacking points and a front valance to make it solid underneath. Most recently I have lowered it using an adjustable creation engineering beam on the front and lowered it by one spline at the back, and also fitted new SSP Fooks wheels.

As Jake is a silver camper with black and white interior we decided to laminate the inside cupboards with black and white photos of the 1970’s Isle of Wight festival to keep up with the 70’s retro theme.

After the huge success of V-Dub Island last year, we can’t wait for this year’s show, especially with the line up and entertainment planned.
