PROFILES - SYDNEY
Vehicle Name: 'Sydney'
Model: Crossover Bay Window Camper
Year: 1972
Owner: Bob Tucker and Kym Davis
"Sydney" has been in Kym's family for about 30 years. Kym's dad acquired him from his second cousin, with all the usual intentions of doing him up. Sadly Kym's Dad Colin passed away in 2006, leaving the project incomplete. Kym and Bob took over the ownership of Sydney and began work to restore the camper in memory of her father.
We have invested a lot of time and money into the restoration, and have replaced the front panel, doors, door skins, a chunk of the roof section (to get it solid again), and then added a few mods of our own such as lowering, some dropped spindles, twin carbs and a set of replica Porsche Fusche wheels. We had it repainted Savannah Beige and still have more plans for it in the future. We want to fit a bigger engine and Bob would love to put air ride on it.
We have been a part of DAMAGE since the Spring 2010, although you wouldn’t think it, it feels like we have known everyone for years. Bob was looking for a local club to join and saw a DAMAGE post on Early Bay. We went to a club meet and the rest is history. We have a great time at the shows and when we go away together there is always something crazy going on. The people make the club and there is always someone around to offer their expertise if you need a helping hand or advice with something.
We are getting married in June and will be using Sydney and some of the other club cars as our wedding cars, transporting the bridal party and of course the compulsory VW Wedding Photo shoot.
We are looking forward to the summer, not only to our wedding, but, being able to get out and about in Sydney more, attending the shows including V-Dub Island and also going on our own adventure touring around the West Country in June.
Bring it on!
